Caroline Muscat was the first-prize winner of various competitions including the Bice Mizzi Vassallo Competition (1995 and 1997), the Young Musicians’ Competition (1997), the EPTA National Piano Competition (1998) and the Tchaikovsky Piano Award (2000). She started her musical education at the tender age of four and her musical talent became evident from a very early age. She is a Licenciate of the Royal Schools of Music and of the Trinity College of Music as well as an Associate of the London College of Music. In 1996, she represented Malta in the European Music Competition for Youths in Dublin, Ireland. At the age of eleven Calleja also took up harp studies under the tuition of Donata Mattei.

Caroline Calleja has worked closely with internationally renowned musicians at the Dartington International Summer School in Devon, England, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy and the Moscow State Conservatory, Russia. In July 2003, Calleja was invited to tour Italy and France with the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra.

In 1998 Caroline Calleja pursued her studies at the Conservatoire National de Region de Lyon in France, where she studied piano and harp performance with Herve` Billaut and Christophe Truant respectively. Consequently, she was awarded the Medaille d’Or in piano and Diplôme de Fin d’Etudes with distinction in harp. In 2002 Calleja graduated Bachelor of Arts (Honours) First Class in Music Studies and in November 2005 she graduated Master of Music from the University of Malta where she majored in Piano Performance under the tuition of Michael Laus.

Caroline Calleja has performed extensively in Malta (Manoel Theatre, St. James Cavalier, the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Presidential Palace) and abroad (Salle Moliere, Lyon; Berliner Konzerthaus; Gewandhaus, Leipzig; Kurthaus, Wiesbaden; Auditorium St Germain, Paris; Aino Ackte Concert House, Helsinki; Estates Theatre, Prague; Washington). In 2000, Calleja made her debut as soloist with the National Orchestra of Malta to great critical and public acclaim which led to various other invitations performing piano concertos by Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann and Camilleri as well as harp concertos by Mozart and Saint-Saëns. She is also highly active in the field of chamber music both as pianist and harpist and has performed with internationally acclaimed artists amongst whom clarinettist Philippe Cuper and flutists Giuseppe Nova and Andrea Griminelli. Calleja has given various performances and world premieres of works by Maltese composers both locally and abroad.

Calleja was the principal harpist of the National Orchestra of Malta between 1998 and 2008 and currently teaches harp and piano at the Johann Strauss School of Music.
