Godfrey Mifsud is considered to be one of Malta’s most refined solo and chamber musicians. He started his musical studies in Malta at an early age under Ronnie Debattista and furthered his clarinet studies in UK with British clarinet virtuoso David Campbell while participating in master classes with international soloists Andrew Marriner, Philippe Cuper, Reinhard Wieser and Howard Klug.

After winning various local competitions he made his public debut with the Malta National Orchestra in 1997 performing Charles Camilleri’s Concertino. In 1999 he was featured as a young artist at the International ClarinetFest held in Ostend Belgium and in 2000 and 2001 performed as a guest artist at the Aberystwyth Musicfest. Since then Godfrey has performed as soloist locally and internationally with various orchestras including the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Camerata Con Cor(d)e, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Berne Youth Symphony Orchestra, Christchurch Wind Orchestra and is also featured as a recording artist on Meridian Records and Divine Art (UK).

Godfrey Mifsud graduated in Music Education from the University of Malta and Master of Music from Christchurch University in Canterbury, UK majoring in clarinet performance under the mentorship of David Campbell. Following his achievement he was awarded a research scholarship by Christchurch University and a bursary from the Stubbs Foundation. Being a passionate chamber musician and fluent on most instruments of the clarinet family, Godfrey performs regularly in orchestral and chamber setups. He is sought after as a versatile musician, performs with various groups and has been a member of the Cosmos Wind Ensemble for the last decade. He is frequently invited to perform as guest principal clarinet with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has performed and recorded works by Maltese composers including Carmelo Pace, Charles Camilleri, Joseph Vella and upcoming composers including Ruben Zahra, Albert Pace, Albert Garzia, Gordon Zammit and Karl Fiorini. Godfrey has performed recitals in Malta, England, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Portugal, Finland, Czech Republic, Tunisia, the USA and Canada.

Some of his recent performances include Mozart’s – Clarinet Concerto and also his Sinfonia Concertante with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra together with members of the Cosmos Wind Ensemble, concert with members of the Vienna Philharmonic at the Manoel Theatre and perfomances with various internationally renowned musicians, including Zanta Hofmeyr, Cristoph Traxler and Roberto Cominati. Being a keen educator Godfrey also enjoys working with young talented and motivated musicians, helping them to further improve their musical skills and career.

Godfrey Mifsud currently holds the post of clarinet tutor at Malta’s main music institution, the Johann Strauss School of Music and is a visiting lecturer in Performance Studies at the University of Malta.
