Saxophonist Joseph Vella attended international master classes in England and Austria with Yean-Yves Fourmeau (France) and Eugene Rousseau (U.S.A.). Later he furthered his musical studies in France at the Conservatoire National de Region of Lyon and Poitiers where he studied saxophone with Serge Bichon, Yean-Denis Michat and Gilles Tressos. Consequently he was awarded the Diplome Fin d’Etudes and Diplome d’Etudes Musicales in Saxophone playing. During a period of five years in France he took part in numerous concerts and also obtained a first prize at the Concours Musical En Touraine.

Vella has appeared as a soloist on several occasions and introduced in Malta works from the classical saxophone repertoire. He has also performed as a soloist with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. He was invited to give concerts in Bulgaria, Turkey, France and Germany.

Joseph Vella holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Malta and is currently teaching saxophone at the Johann Strauss School of Music in Hamrun.
