Trust you have settled back into your practice and study routines after the festivities.

The coming months promise to be very busy at Johann Strauss School of Music Malta.

Several activities will take place including Open Day, the Young People’s Celebration, Prize Day, World Voice Day.

Students at Music Performance Grade 5 or more who are interested to join the JSSoM orchestra – please come and let us know at the main office room 007.

Students at Music Theory or Music Performance Grade 2 or more who are interested to join the JSSoM Junior Choir (ages 8-15) – please come and let us know at the main office room 007.

Gentle reminder to visit regularly the school and website noticeboard for memos, notices, and news.

The website calendar also carries several important dates of assessments, parents week, examinations etc.

JSSoM Loyalty Card holders may now enjoy 100s of free concert tickets made available by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Teatru Manoel.

Do not miss out on these opportunities – remember that attending concerts and listening to live music is an essential part of your music studies.

Assessments are close. Pay attention in class, ask questions where you do not understand, do your coursework regularly, practice daily and revise weekly.

This will help you avoid last-minute panic and stress!

During assessments week, all assessments will be held during the time of your lesson unless otherwise indicated by your teacher/s.

Student Memo 131115 – MPO last-minute opportunities

Dear Students / Parents / Guardians,

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Academy Masterclasses would like to invite all Johann Strauss School of Music Malta string students as non-active participants (free of charge) to follow masterclasses conducted by American tutors. The tutors are currently in Malta, to work with the MYO in preparation for the forthcoming Ziguzajg performance. Sessions will be held on Saturday 14th November 3.00 p.m. till 6.00 p.m. and Sunday 15th November from 4.00 p.m. till 7.00 p.m. at the MPO offices in Floriana. If you would like to participate send an email with your name and surname to maria.blanco@maltaorchestra.com

JSSoM Loyalty Card holders are hereby being offered free tickets for the MPO Chamber Orchestra Series, conducted by Brian Schembri and featuring violin and harp concertos. Concerts are held on Friday 20th November and Saturday 21st November, at Robert Samut Hall. The free student ticket will be offered when purchased with an adult full paying entrance. Dear Students / Parents / Guardians,

Hope you all had a restful summer and a smooth start to the scholastic year 2015/16.

This year, the Johann Strauss School of Music Malta has introduced the new grading system; you may find full details about this on the School Handbook.

The School Handbook is also a new initiative; this booklet is available from the main office room 007 or upon purchase of the music theory pack; the School Handbook in Maltese and English includes all you need to know about the Johann Strauss School of Music.

May I encourage students following the Standard Music Course to get the JSSoM Loyalty Card which is worth for its value. JSSoM Loyalty Card holders are entitled to free tickets for local concerts and productions; free photocopies and also discounts from local music and stationery outlets.

Students, parents and guardians are advised to visit the JSSoM website regularly; the Noticeboard page includes memos, news, notices and calendar which are regularly updated.

Announcements:

Myra Cassar and Lizzie Anne Faure have attended pianoforte masterclasses in Pescara Italy;

Maria Ellul participated in the Saxophone World Congress;

Marvic Baldacchino and Christabelle Formosa have attended the Oxford International Music School during the summer;

Thomas Alexander Pace participated in the Sax-Festival in Strasbourg;

Several JSSoM students already form part of the Malta Youth Orchestra; another new entry this year is violinist Matthew Bugeja.
