The Johann Strauss School of Music has embarked on an Erasmus+ project entitled MEETMusic Erasmus Education Training.

In the coming years, different teachers from the School of Music shall be travelling overseas for a week span for specialised professional development.

The first group will be leaving in a few days and apart from a Bon Voyage, please join me in wishing them a memorable professional experience.

In the near future, the School looks forward to engage into other EU projects which will involve and benefit its potential and committed students too.

Welcome to Parents / Guardians / Adult Students Week whereby you are invited to visit your respective teacher/s in class on the day and during the time of the lesson unless otherwise indicated by your teacher/s.

 

Qalb it-Tfal

JSSoM will be collecting monetary donations in aid of Qalb it-Tfal. Donations are to be given to the performance teachers. Make sure to sign the donation sheet!

Qalb it-Tfal Foundation is strongly committed to offering support and improving the lives of children in need, by offering; psychological, financial, materialistic and emotional support – http://qalbit-tfal.org/

 

Class Concerts are taking off shortly…..make sure to practice and enjoy performing; a donation fee of €2 per person excluding children under 12 and participants will be accepted at the door – this forms part of the school fund raising process.

 

Performance Final Examination Set pieces for the final annual practical examinations may be bought from the main office room 007 as from 13th March. Exact change is appreciated.

Summer Sounds 2nd Edition

  • Application for Summer Sounds are NOW open!
  • Summer Sounds 2017 will take place over 8 weeks starting from 17th July till 6th September.
  • Participants are required to attend three days a week.
  • Individual and group music tuition classes and much more including Drama, Dance, and Art to provide a holistic experience of the arts, as well as Healthy Movement, Healthy Living and Nutrition, Etiquette and Public Speaking, which benefit students in their everyday life and in their musical endeavours.
  • Students will need to have had some prior music tuition in Piano, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Classical Guitar, Contemporary Guitar, Violin, Violoncello, Drums and Percussion
  • If interested, collect an application form from the School’s main office Room 007.

Young Musicians’ Celebration Concert 2017 will be held on Tuesday 11th April at 6.00 p.m. Tickets on a first-come first-serve basis may be purchased at €5 each from the main office room 007 as from Tuesday 21st March 2017.

Dear Students / Parents / Guardians,

Trust you are gearing up for a 2nd busy term.

Students who are interested to join the JSSoM orchestra (all ages) or the JSSoM Junior Choir (ages 8-15) – please come and let us know at the main office room 007.

It is important to visit regularly the email provided upon application and the school website – noticeboard, notices, news and calendar. The website calendar carries several important dates including of assessments and parents week.

Get your JSSoM Student Loyalty Card and enjoy free concert made available by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Teatru Manoel – attending concerts and listening to live music is an essential part of your music studies. Do not miss out on such opportunities.

Assessments Week is a couple of weeks away – daily practice, weekly revision, regular attendance, active participation in class, doing coursework-given regularly are vital to progress in music studies. Assessments are held during the time of the lesson/s unless otherwise indicated by your teacher/s.

Hope you all had a smooth start to the scholastic year 2016/17.

The Johann Strauss School of Music Malta is proud to announce that courses are now official accredited and recognized.

An updated version of the School Handbook will shortly be available from the main office room 007; the School Handbook in Maltese and English includes all you need to know about the Johann Strauss School of Music Malta.

New students following the Standard Music Course may purchase the JSSoM Loyalty Card (€15) from the main office room 007 as from 17th October; students already holding a JSSoM Loyalty Card may renew it (€10). JSSoM Loyalty Card holders are entitled to free tickets for local concerts and productions; free photocopies and also discounts from local music and stationery outlets.

Students, parents and guardians are advised to visit the JSSoM website regularly; the Noticeboard page includes memos, news, notices and school calendar which are regularly updated.

My visiting hours are on Thursdays from 16:00 till 18:00hrs; other days or times are by appointment.

Ms Odette Chetcuti has joined the JSSoM Team as Centre Coordinator.

Several JSSoM students already form part of the Malta Youth Orchestra; other new entries this year include Josefa Muscat, Luca Vella, Andrew Debono Cauchi, Monique Falzon, Nicole Spiteri.

The Johann Strauss School of Music Scholastic Year 2015/16 is coming to a close.

Results will be received by post by the second week of July 2016.

Revise, keep fit and enjoy music this Summer! Summer Sounds is 6-week long course, commencing on Monday 25th July till Friday 2nd September. Lessons will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.30 a.m. till 12.30 p.m. Upon popular demand, applications are open and being received at JSSoM in the mornings (9.00 a.m. till noon) and in the afternoons (3.00 p.m. till 6.00 p.m.) too. It is important to rest and enjoy some well-deserved holidays but make sure:

Applications for scholastic year 2016/17 open online www.lifelonglearning.gov.mt between 12th July until 5h August. An updated final prospectus and how to apply will be published shortly. Reminder that all students need to apply for a music knowledge and understanding graded or exempt class to be given access to choose and apply for their instrument.

During the summer months, school opens from Monday to Friday 9.00 a.m. till 12.00 p.m. (noon). Please refrain from calling at other times;

2015 certificates may be collected from the main office (room 007) in Hamrun until Friday 24th June 2016; Any certificates collected after this date will be against an administrative charge of €5;

Lessons start at the beginning of October 2015.

Summer Sounds 2016

Revise, keep fit and enjoy music!

Summer Sounds is 6-week long course, commencing on Monday 25th July till Friday 2nd September. Lessons will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

A student may choose to attend one, two or three sessions a week. Sessions take place between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. with a 30-minute break in between. See overleaf for timetable.

Each class will include a minimum of 8 students and a maximum of 10 students grouped according to grade and as much as possible according to age.

Instrument sessions consist of open classes / masterclasses / workshops involving individual and group tutoring as well as ensemble playing.

Knowledge and Understanding sessions consist of theory, aural training, singing, listening and appreciation.

A one-time fee is payable in cash upon application:
• 1-day €100
• 2-day €170
• 3-day €240

Johann Strauss School of Music will provide professional tuition, manuscript paper, music scores, handouts, pen, pencil, rubber, sharpener, ruler and a bag.

Rules and recommendations:

  • Bring instrument where applicable, plenty of water and a packed lunch;
  • Dress decent and comfortable clothing;
  • Arrive and leave punctually;
  • Show respect to all the people around you;
  • Regular practice is recommended.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Students are accepted on a first-come first-served basis;
  • Classes will only take place with 8 students or more;
  • Fee is payable in full upon application;
  • Refunds will only be granted in the case of a course not opening;
  • Session/s where tutor is unavailable is/are replaced on day and time provided.

Scholastic year 2015/16 is drawing to a close.

It was an exciting and busy year at JSSoM with lots more to come!

 

Notes and reminders:

–         To collect certificates of scholastic year 2014/15 from the main office until 24th June;

–         To choose and order your digital photo/s at €2 each for the Awards Evening 2016;

–         To choose and order your digital photo/s at €2 each for the Young Musicians’ Celebration Concert;

–         Music Theory Examinations date / time / venue have been published on the school notice board / website;

–         Music Performance Examination date / time / room will be provided by your respective teacher;

–         General meeting for new and renewal students / parents / guardians will be held at the Maria Assumpta main hall on Wednesday 8th June at 6.00 p.m. till 7.00 p.m.;

–         Meeting for prospective diploma students will be held Thursday 23rd June at 5.00 p.m. till 6.00 p.m.

 

Summer Sounds

The JSSoM is introducing a music summer school between Monday 25th July and Friday 2rd September on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 a.m.

 

Therefore, if you are between 8 to 16 years;

Have completed your first year in a music instrument;

Interested in some FUN summer classes in your instrument;

Or interested to revise aural training, solfeggio, music theory;

 

Just submit your details at the schools’ main office in room 007 or call t. 21242549 to receive more information very soon!!!!

 

Applications

–         Applications for new and renewal students will open mid-July; exact date yet to be announced by the Department;

–         The JSSoM will be providing a customer care service at the School premises in Hamrun to assist new or renewal students with the application process; opening hours will be Monday to Friday between 9.00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m. during application dates.

–         A prospectus including timetables will shortly be uploaded on the school website and Facebook page / group.

MPO Fanfare Concert – JSSoM Offer

Further to MPO’s collaboration with JSSoM.

One free adult ticket with every two kids purchased tickets is being offered for The Family Fanfare Concert happening next Saturday 30th April at MCC.

Student Memo 280216 – JSSoM helps Music Students in the Philippines

Dear Students / Parents / Guardians,

The JSSoM has decided to reach out to the Philippines whereby a musical project has been going on for a number of years.

This project consists of a group of youngsters in a remote poor village in the Philippines who are being taught how to play an instrument by Maltese musicians.

In the coming months, a small representation of these youngsters will be spending a few weeks at the JSSoM to observe classes and participate in concerts.

Therefore, the JSSoM is kindly asking you for a monetary donation in aid of this initiative. Donations are to be sent or given to the performance teachers until latest Saturday 9th April. Make sure to sign the donation sheet!
