Cliff Zammit Stevens 10th Anniversary Concert

On 3rd October Maltese tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens will be celebrating the 10-year
anniversary of his musical career with an open-air concert in St George’s Square,
Valletta. The programme will feature a mixture of musical styles, and Cliff
will be accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, which will be conducted by
Mro Philip Walsh. Ira Losco will also make an appearance as the special guest on the
night, as the pair mark the release of their new single, Xemx. The concert will support
The Marcy Foundation, launched in August this year in honour of the tenor’s late
mother, Marcelline. The concert will feature a varied programme from across the
genres, including pop, classical and opera. This event is supported by Valletta 2018,
Intercontinental Malta and BOV.
St George’s Square, Valletta on 3 October at 8pm.

Malta School of Music is the only state music school, and the longest standing music school (since 1975) on the island where by students enjoys specialised and qualitative learning of music.
4 TYPES OF COURSES
- Introduction to Music (2 years) for children who will be 6 or 7 years by end of December 2018
- Regular Music Course (spread over 8-9 years) for students 8+ years or 13+ years;
- Diploma (2 years);
- Leisure Course 25+ years (3 years).
REGULAR COURSE consists of:
- Instrumental Class (Practical)
10% coursework and 10% chamber (which amounts to 20%);
80% performance.
- Music Knowledge and Understanding
This class incorporates five important components:
- Aural no longer 30% but 15 %;
- Music Appreciation and Listening is 15%;
- Written Examination is 25%;
- HWs is 25% (not all but specific HWs will carry marks);
- Sight Singing is 20%;
History will not be included in examination paper.
Very important that there should be continuous studying on a daily basis.
NO MID-YEARLY ASSESSMENTS
PREBOOKINGS
Suggestion from parents; also against a donation of €10 i.e. it is NOT obligatory.
Prebooking applies only to renewal students who wish to reserve place in a specific class, day and time.
For example, one does not need to utilize the prebooking system when only one class is available e.g. Jazz Knowledge and Understanding or some 16+ classes.
All renewal students whether prebooked or not are guaranteed a place in the school.

- Fill in application and chose instrument within the same page.
Leisure Course 25+ years (3-year course) to apply Music Knowledge and Understanding Exempt class
Limited vacancies for VIOLIN / PIANO / CLASSICAL GUITAR;
More available vacancies for TROMBONE / EUPHONIUM / SAXOPHONE / CLARINET / VIOLA / ACCORDION / FLUTE.
AUDITIONS as per school policy
Auditions take place in the last week of September were demand is larger than available vacancies; this will consist of a practical assessment of pitch and rhythm and a short interview to evaluate aptitude and commitment towards music and instrument chosen.
NEW
New students will be called by the practical teacher to settle day and time during the 2nd and/or 3rd week of October;
Music Knowledge and Understanding Classes for new students start 2nd and/or 3rd week of October as per day and time chosen.
RENEWAL
Renewal students will be called by the practical teacher to settle day and time during the 1st week of October;
Music Knowledge and Understanding Classes for Renewal students start as from 1st October as per application.
CONCLUSION
- Avoid grumbling in corridors instead come, ask and discuss and where possible issues are tackled.
- Subscribe to website to be notified about updates; emails are sent when matter of concern is personal.
- Expose your children to concerts and other music activities.

You are invited to come to the School’s main office to pre book a place (or places, in the case of siblings) in a specific class at a donation of €10. Refunds are not applicable.
Reminder that opening hours are from 09.00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. and from 3.00 p.m. till 6.00 p.m.
